Our Faculty Member, Res. İsa Babur, Participates in the International Islamic Manuscripts Workshop in Berlin
Res. İsa Babur, a faculty member from our institution, successfully completed the esteemed summer school workshop titled "Material Aspects of Manuscripts of the Islamicate World, with a Special Focus on Bookbinding", which was held in Berlin from September 9-13, 2024. The workshop took place at the Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin, under the leadership of the Department of Oriental Studiesr.
Organized in collaboration with the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities (Corpus Coranicum), the Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin, and the Al-Furqan Islamic Heritage Foundation (London), the event gathered experts from around the globe to explore the rich material culture of Islamic manuscript .

Participants benefited from a comprehensive experience, which included both lectures and practical sessions, as well as the opportunity to engage directly with materials and techniques. The workshop also featured hands-on applications of classical papermaking, binding, and repair methods in the library's laboratory. Additionally, attendees had the chance to examine a variety of Islamic manuscripts from different regions and historical periods, including 9th-century Quranic manuscripts, and to engage in dynamic discussions on paper, binding, and restoration techniques...
