Researcher İsa Babur Attended Comparative Habsburg-Ottoman Paleography Summer School in Vienna
İsa Babur, a researcher from the Department of History of Religions in our faculty, successfully participated in the prestigious 'Comparative Habsburg-Ottoman Paleography Summer School' held at the University of Vienna from July 1-12, 2024. Awarded a full scholarship, Babur's travel and accommodation expenses were fully covered, enabling his attendance at this intensive program.
The summer school, organized by the University of Vienna's Department of Turkology, the Institute for Habsburg and Balkan Studies (IHB), and the Austrian Academy of Sciences, focused on analyzing primary sources from the Habsburg and Ottoman Empires during the early modern period (1500-1800). The program’s first week (July 1-5) was dedicated to Habsburg sources, while the second week (July 8-12) emphasized Ottoman documents.
Participants benefited from expert lectures, interactive sessions, and hands-on paleography training. Additionally, they explored key archival and historical sites, including the Habsburg Imperial Archives (HHStA), the Perchtoldsdorf Ottoman Museum, and the Military History Museum (HGM). A highlight of the program was a guided tour of Vienna’s first district, focusing on Ottoman traces, led by renowned scholars Prof. Johannes Feichtinger and Prof. Johann Heiss.
